Mog EP (w/ Alex Jones & FB Julian remix)

HypeDigi05 / 2009 / Digital only

Jozif's vinyl only MOG Vol.1 release instantly caught the ears of those down at Hypercolour HQ and, whilst vinyl junkies may contest, we firmly believe it would be criminal to let tracks such as these slip under the radar. The release has been a staple in both Alex's and Jamie's DJ sets for some time now after being released on his own vinyl only MOG imprint.

Written at his father’s studio in Wales (a session drummer who worked with likes of Sinatra, Shirley Bassey amongst others!) the tracks are heavily influenced by the music Jozif grew up listening to with his father.

Named after a street in Hamburg, home to The Star Club, where his father was resident drummer for the house band, Große Freiheit displays a seemingly hereditary addiction to drums. Simplicity is the key here - a solid groove, a wonky breakdown and a chest rattling bassline. This track works insanely on the dancefloor.

In timely fashion, Jozif combines disco with house sensibilities for what was the EP’s B-side – Make it my Memory steadily chugs on; some rather epic samples make it a solid builder that will stand out nicely in deep sets.

Finally Make it my Memory is given the Hypercolour treatment by label boss Alex Jones, joined this time by Kubicle party resident and Fabric regular Julian ‘FB Julian’. The two combine with vocalist Eilidh Debonnaire to create a London Vs New York vocal-off - Eilidh's beautiful vocal mixed amongst the old nameless Jazz Head's preaching creates a different and unique soundscape, Eilidh's poetic view on London rides amongst ‘ghetto-tech’ type beats (as loosely described by some silly lads sound round a glass round table whilst discussing music!). This is Hypercolour not conforming, yet again : )
