We’re pleased to announce the return of Glimpse to Hypercolour, following up his acclaimed ‘Talking to Girls’ EP with a stunning new track made in collaboration with Hypercolour head honcho Alex Jones. ‘Felaz’ sees the pair boiling down a digi-disco groove to it’s bare bones for a masterfully constructed, low-slung techno epic. Grand chimes ripple over an ethereal vocodered refrain, while a chugging, burbling bassline pulses endlessly below.
Discarding the souless glitches of contemporary minimalism in favour of elegant sound design and straight, richly textured synths, it’s a powerful slice of high-end dancefloor gold.
On the flip, Offenbach’s super-hot prodigy Matt Star (whose releases on Weave have been caned bu the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Magda, Dominic Eulberg and Loco Dice) gets stuck into ‘Felaz’ with a stripped down, gentler alternative to the original’s swelling pyrotechnics. A bumping rhythm undepins sweet, floating synth lines, flanked by a smatter of grinding delays and fractured vocal snippets. Tighter, houseir and deeper than his usual style, it’s a testament to Matt’s incredible versatility – watch this guy take over in 2008.
Despite a personality dripping with sharp wit and a seeming inability to take anything TOO seriously, Alex Jones the DJ/Producer is seriously one of the brightest lights in house music in the UK.
A resident DJ at the legendary Big Beat Boutique alongside an emerging Radio Slave, Jones has since established himself as a versatile yet focused DJ who delivers sharp, modern house and techno with a distinctly trippy edge.
