Hype012 / 2008 / 12” & DigitalKris was first brought to our attention after hearing his first release on Morris Audio – Det Sound. His fresh but nostalgic sound caught our ears instantly. It was love at first listen!
Kris Wadsworth’s debut on Hypercolour is not like any other on the label, but then again you never know what to expect next from the Hypercolour camp. Best described as Soul-Infused, Jackin House with a distinct early US sound to it, this may be where Kris draws his influence from but he is certainly leading the way for the Nu-Skool of US producers.
High Roller starts the proceedings, reminiscent of early Daft Punk and Roule records, an echoing vocal sample rallys throughout and the track is then punctuated by an incessant rolling bass groove, it rides! Next up is In Walked KW, a vocal sample stops/ starts and weaves in and out of a rolling percussive pattern, this is House music of the highest order. Finally it’s the jack-a-thon – Motown Revival, an overlaying piano melody, shuffling skippy beats…all the ingredients needed to Jack! All in all, a proper House EP for House heads.
