With a year that has already seen releases and remixes from Tom Demac, Agnes, Philippe Autuori, Skylark, Alex Jones, Dan Berkson, Glimpse, Danton Eeprom and Sebastian Bouchet, UK-based Hypercolour has become something of a must-check imprint. Here, they bid a fond farewell to the summer with Warbgasm's "Dead Arm EP"
complete with remixes from Will Saul & Tam Cooper and Plasmik.
Otherwise known as Daniel Warburton, Warbgasm hails from the North of England and has a bright future ahead if this ep is anything to go by. Lead cut "Dead Arm" is an 808 and chord frenzy with bitter sweet melodies that scream "proper" electro subtly squeezed into a tech-house mould. It's as emotive as it is entertaining and is typical of the Hypercolour camp, where talent seems to be endless.
Possibly London's finest export, the duo of Will Saul & Tam Cooper deliver the remix on "Dead Arm" which is an excellent choice given the pairs reputation for handling melody. Their mix is a slightly more organic foray into house music, with intricate high end percussion driving the track's lazy and quite beautiful melodies along. A landmark mix for the already superb remixography of the Simple Records main man and Cooper.
The menacingly titled "Influenza" is next and it shrugs off it's own name and becomes something breezy and uplifting yet remaining as deep as it's counterpart. The 808 dominates again, presenting a stripped groove which in turn underpins brilliantly pitched keys and well placed sonic trickery. German stalwarts Plasmik provide a reinterpretation which draws on the melody of the original but with a slightly more "peak time" feel with it's stomping 909 kick (thank heaven for Roland), resonating bassline and sparingly used pianos.
This is Hypercolour at its best - unearthing great talent and combining that with the wealth of established talent to creat exciting eps for djs and electronic music fans alike.
Also known as Daniel Warburton, Warbgasm hails from the North of England and has a bright future ahead if his first EP on Hypercolour Recordings is anything to go by. Gaining support from the likes of Lee Jones, Patrice Baumel, Stimming, Will Saul, Plasmik, Milton Jackson, Quarion, Funk D'Void, and Laurent Garnier amongst others, 'Influenza' made it onto Lee Jones' beautiful Resident Advisor podcast, whilst 'Dead Arm' is featured on the very first Warung Brazil compilation mixed by the 16 Bit Lolitas.
